What we actually do.

Some of this is building software. A fair amount is working out whether you need any built at all.

01

AI readiness assessment

We look at how your business runs and tell you which AI tools, if any, would make a real difference. Often the answer is none. We'll say so, and tell you what would actually help instead.

Frequent answer: don't
02

Market & competitive research

Before anything gets built we study your market in detail. Who else is doing this, what they charge, how they position, where the gaps are. I do this work myself, run through Storypole, a research system we built to cover far more ground than I could by hand.

Software development

Web and mobile applications, built with AI doing the repetitive 80% and experienced people owning the 20% that determines whether it holds up. Speed without the debt.

Prototype rescue

You have something live, probably AI-generated, that's starting to break under real use. We stabilize it first, then rebuild the parts that can't be saved. Usually while it stays up.

05

Systems migration & networks

Moving a business off something that's failing and onto something that works, without stopping operations. We've been doing this since it meant token ring and Windows NT. The fundamentals haven't changed as much as people think.

Small business advisory

We've owned businesses and advised plenty of others. Sometimes the problem isn't the software, and it helps to talk to somebody who has read a P&L and made payroll.

How we work

Research first. Build second. Sometimes don't build at all.

The order matters. Most of the waste we've seen in small business technology comes from building before anybody understood the business.

The line on the right fills as you go. Every step has to be measured against the one before it, which is the whole idea behind Storypole, the research system we run every market through.

We learn the business

The first conversation is about your business, not your software. How you make money, who your customers are, what your margins look like, what's genuinely slowing you down. You'd be surprised how often that conversation ends the project early, in a good way.

We research your market

We go through your competitors in real detail. Pricing, positioning, what they've built, what they're neglecting. This is human work and I do it myself, but I run it through Storypole. It covers far more ground than I could by hand. A person still reads it and makes the calls.

We tell you what we found

Plainly, including the parts you won't like. If the answer is that you don't need us, that's what you'll hear. We'd rather lose a project than take money for something that won't work.

We scope only what's worth building

A fixed, written scope with a real number attached. No open-ended discovery that quietly turns into a retainer.

We build it

In short cycles you can see. AI accelerates the parts it's good at, which is a lot of them now. An experienced person owns every decision that determines whether it survives contact with real users.

We stay through launch

We ship it, watch it under real traffic, and stay through the first weeks in production. That's the part most shops skip, and it's the part where things go wrong.

Tell us whatyou're trying to do.

We'll look at your business first and tell you honestly whether we're the right fit for it. That conversation doesn't cost anything.
